Harford County Public Schools’ interim superintendent has been appointed to the role permanently.

Dr. Dyann R. Mack, who has led the school system on an interim basis since the beginning of this year, was named the permanent superintendent Tuesday afternoon by the county’s school board.

“Dr. Mack has proven herself to be a thoughtful, experienced, and student-centered leader,” school board president Lauren Paige said in a statement. “Throughout this process, it became clear that her vision, leadership, and deep understanding of our school system make her the right choice to lead Harford County Public Schools forward. We are confident in her ability to build on our strengths and guide HCPS into the future.”

Mack became interim superintendent after former superintendent Sean Bulson was placed on administrative leave in January and later fired.

A graduate of Harford County Public Schools, Mack earned degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, School Leadership, and Educational Leadership.

She brings more than 30 years of experience in education, including previous work as a teacher, achievement gap coordinators, assistant principal, director of school instruction and performance, executive director of school instruction and performance, and deputy superintendent of academics.

The other finalist for the superintendent role was Dr. Stacey Gerringer, a 32-year veteran of the Harford County Public Schools system.
