5600 Everton Road, Mt. Washington 21209.

Hot House: New Mexican casita in the heart of Mt. Washington. 3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. 2190 square feet. Asking price: $500,000.

What: I had never seen these charming casitas in Mt. Washington until I visited a former boss’s home ages ago. For years, I tried to figure out where this unexpected cul de sac with a half-dozen or so of these New Mexican-style houses was, and now I know!

Although this house is on the small side, it packs a lot of interest into the space. From the time you pull up to the house, you begin to see the small details that make this 1930 house so charming. From the private sunny courtyard entrance, to the applied stucco, to the Spanish tile details, you could just as easily be in New Mexico as Mt. Washington.

The front door opens to a wide hallway with a living room with a Mexican-style fireplace and arched doorways. Stained glass windows enhance the space. French doors lead to a back patio overlooking the private side yard. Across from the living room is the dining room, leading to the sunny kitchen with a terracotta tile floor, a built-in corner banquette and a skylight for extra light.

The three bedrooms all have ample closet space and a shared bathroom. All of the rooms in this house are on the ground floor, making it perfect for someone who doesn’t want lots of stairs. The casita also has a lovely, level and private back yard and an attached two-car garage. The property has numerous mature trees and established plantings.

The basement level features a laundry room, plus a huge family room with a pool table, which conveys with the house. There is also an additional bathroom, a cedar closet, and office space.

Where: This charming casita is located in Mt. Washington, just off of Pimlico Road. There are actually two non-connecting parts of Everton Road, one accessed from Pimlico and the other from Greenspring Avenue. Most of the houses on Everton are of a similar style, although one or two have been altered. The house is between Northern Parkway and Cross Country Boulevard and close to Sinai and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospitals.

Final Appraisal: If you are a fan of New Mexican architecture, this is the perfect house for you. You can fill the house with your collections of Zuni pottery, Kokopelli, Navajo rugs and huge Georgia O’Keefe prints! It’s such a unique house and understandably not for everyone. But for the right person, it’s absolutely perfect. Although the listing says Everhurst Road, the house is actually located on Everton Road. The listing for the house is here.
