Looking for some change in your life? Find your fellow collectors at the free Whitman Expos Winter Coin Expo, coming to the Baltimore Convention Center from Nov. 6–8.
The three-day event is open to the public with free admission, though a photo ID is required.
Expect a welcoming environment for seasoned collectors, families, and novices to take in the treasures, both rare and commonplace. Independent dealers and numismatic experts will guide visitors in exploration of the coins, paper money, and collectibles on display.
Visitors will have the chance to see the “King of American Coins,” a newly discovered 1804 dollar coin which will be auctioned by Stack’s Bowers Galleries at their upcoming Showcase Auction, with a pre-sale estimate of $4–5 million. Other rare historic and valuable items on display include two of the largest United States gold coins ever made: the famous Gold Rush-era $50 slug, and the rare octagonal 1915 $50 gold coin that commemorated it.
Ever seen a California Gold Rush-era faceplate that has been through a shipwreck in 1857, that in its original form and weight would contain over $1 million (in today’s prices) worth of gold? How about historic American medals created in 1801 for Lewis and Clark to present to chiefs of Indigenous tribes? Maybe an example of the first American silver dollar, worth more than $3 million, might catch a collector’s interest. These and many more properties will be at the expo for visitors to learn about and admire.
There will be a book signing on Friday, Nov. 7, from noon–2 p.m. by Dr. Fred Bart and Bianca Bart, authors of “United States Paper Money Errors, 5th Edition.” They will be at Booth #135 signing the newly revised and expanded reference edition, now in full color that includes more than 550 photos, detailed grading and pricing information, the Friedberg Numbering System, rarity guides, and exclusive data on production errors within the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Copies of the reference will be available at the expo.
The United States Mint will be there, and have several special releases and collectibles at its booth during the Whitman Expo, like the 2025 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. This set is releasing on Nov. 6, the opening day of the show in Baltimore.

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Superman — but in the form of a Comic Art One Ounce Silver Medal. The U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program celebrates comic art as uniquely American and features both Superman and Clark Kent as symbols of hope, justice, and strength. The booth will also have coins commemorating the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy.
Whitman Expos Winter Coin Expo hopes to inspire young collectors to join the fun and is pulling out all the stops with their lineup of free activities for youth ages 6–12. Young hobbyists can enjoy events like “Fill Your Album,” where they receive a coin album and search for dates to complete; “Coin Grab,” where treasure-seekers reach into a chest filled with valuable coins to take home; “Coin Coloring,” where artists take part in coin-themed art activities; and more. Each child also receives a goodie bag filled with collectibles from the Expo dealers.
“The Whitman Expos Winter Coin Expo is more than just a marketplace — it’s a celebration of numismatics and the community that surrounds it,” said Lori Kraft, general manager of Whitman Expos, in a statement. “Whether you are a lifelong collector, an investor, or a family just starting to explore the hobby, there’s something here for everyone. We are excited to welcome attendees to Baltimore this fall.”
