Lawyers for George Huguely, the former UVA lacrosse star who was convicted of the second degree murder in the death of Baltimore’s Yeardley Love, appeared in Charlottesville Circuit Court today to set the date for the sentencing of Huguely, a Chevy Chase, Md. resident.
Judge Edward Hogshire ruled that Huguely will be sentenced on August 30. The jury in the case recommended a 26-year sentence.
Last month, attorneys for Huguely indicated they intend to ask for a retrial in the case. They must file that motion by May 25.
A hearing on a request to have some of the evidence released to the media is set for Thursday afternoon.
