The new J. Crew in Harbor East opened yesterday and my teenage daughter and I thought it might be fun to take a peek inside.  I like the sign on the window.

If youโ€™ve been in the space before โ€” at the base of the Legg Mason Tower on Katyn Circle โ€” you know itโ€™s spacious, so thereโ€™s plenty of room for a large womenโ€™s department and a large menโ€™s departmentโ€ฆ

Thereโ€™s an attractive  area for those who would rather sit out the shopping experience.

Not all of the J. Crew stores sell shoes, but this one does.

It also carries handbags.

As usual, they do a great job with display and with making the place feel fashionable and fun.

I asked my daughter to pick out a few things she liked (just to photograph, not to buy!) and she chose this sweet Liberty print shirtโ€ฆ

I liked this messenger bag. Itโ€™s for a man, but I would use it. No, itโ€™s not a man-purse.

They had several cases of the brandโ€™s signature costume jewelry, including a few items I put on my wish list.

The store is still a little low on merchandise, understandable given the newness of it all and the time of year.  The Goldsign jeans โ€” written up in the New York Times last Sunday โ€” are not in the inventory and the staff did not know whether they would get them.  The โ€œboyfriend sweater,โ€ which I saw in the catalog and wanted to try on, was not in.

Somehow we managed, and ended up with enough selections to qualify for the special gift with purchase (it was the shoes that got us over the top). The gift was a good-looking, simple Timex, which I need!

Weโ€™ll be back!
