If you want to get Maryland. I mean, if you want get just about as Maryland as you can get, research suggests you should put on a Kelly Rowland CD. Recent research finds that she is our state’s favorite artist, or rather, “most distinctive artist.”
Paul Lamere looked at Spotify listening preferences by zip code and made a ranking of artists’ popularity for every state. Then, instead of simply listing each state’s favorite, Lamere found top-100 artist in each state that sees the largest drop in popularity outside of that state. For us, it’s former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. She’s from Atlanta, Ga., but Maryland loves her best.
