Football players are known for making big decisions that could lead to a change of scenery in the months between seasons. Even though he signed a big contract last year, Joe Flacco is no different.
On Monday, the Ravens quarterback announced he is switching banks for the 2016-17 season. Instead of 1st Mariner Bank, he’ll be speaking up for M&T Bank. With the deal, Flacco will appear in M&T Bank ads and community events. There’s also a Joe Flacco debit card in the works.
Flacco appeared in some high-quality hometown ads for the hometown 1st Mariner Bank. He even got to take a few shots at Pittsburgh. But his talent as a pitch man appeared to be heading for prime time after a Pepsi commercial about throwing a party got a lot of attention. Though M&T Bank is one of those out-of-town corporate banks that Flacco spent one previous ad questioning, there’s a lot of obvious brand alignment in the deal. M&T owns the naming rights to his stadium and “Official Bank of the Baltimore Ravens” status.
Whether this makes Flacco an elite pitchman, however, will surely be debated on social media throughout the season.
