Johns Hopkins just announced the five speakers it’s bringing in for its annual student-organized MSE Symposium, and it’s a nice cross-section of actors, politicians, and actors who play politicians. In short: these are people who know how to be entertaining.
Craig Robinson (September 10) – That hilarious guy you may remember from Pineapple Express, Hot Tub Time Machine, and The Office.
Jon Favreau (October 2) – Barack Obama’s former speechwriter
Kal Penn (October 8) – Actor-turned-political activist, known for stoner comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and also serving in the White House Office of Public Engagement
Tony & Jonna Mendez (October 16) – The CIA agents whose escape from Iran was chronicled in Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning film Argo
Ron Paul (November 1) – Perpetual presidential candidate and hero of libertarians everywhere.
It’s an interesting mix; the common elements seem to be stoner comedies, Hollywood connections, some connection to the Obama administration, and being a man (or at least sharing the bill with one). Nice choices, though, on the whole. All events take place at 8 p.m. in Shriver Hall on the Homewood campus; they are free and open to the public.
