On Tuesday, March 22, the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins will host a virtual discussion between the university’s president Ron Daniels and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the role that our institutions play in supporting democracy.
Speaker Pelosi and Daniels will discuss how to galvanize people to become civically engaged, how to bridge the gap between institutions and the citizens they represent, and the value of student voices in shaping public discourse.
House Speaker Pelosi is the 52nd Speaker of the U.S. House and the first woman to serve in that role.
Daniels has served as the university’s president since 2009. In 2021, Daniels published “What Universities Owe Democracy,” which examines the challenges facing democracy and argues for the role that universities play in sustaining democratic societies.
The free event will take place from 7-8 p.m. Registration is required.
