Under Armour CEO and wealth magnet Kevin Plank is chipping in $5 million (through his Cupid Foundation) to overhaul a recreation center in East Baltimore, Baltimore Business Journal reports.
The as-yet-unnamed facility at 1100 E. Fayette St., formerly the Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center, will feature a turf field, a STEM classroom, a recording studio, and dance and yoga studios, among other things. In addition to the renovations, Under Armour will be donating $1.275 million to be put toward programming at the center.
According to BBJ, Living Classrooms Foundation, which has been teaching at the Carmelo Anthony Center, will run the new facilities. The Baltimore Sun reports that the influx of resources will allow the center to expand its offerings to include computer coding classes and programs focused on entrepreneurship and music.
Construction should be complete in six months.
