Great news for those who did not make it up to New York to see โKimberly Akimbo,โ the 2023 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical: the critically acclaimed musical is coming to Baltimoreโs historic Hippodrome Theatre, and tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. EST.
The story revolves around Kimberly, who is about to turn 16 and has recently moved with her family to a town in suburban New Jersey. She is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition that causes her to age faster (giving her the appearance of an older woman), her first crushโฆand possible felony charges. Always optimistic, though, Kim is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure. โThe New Yorkerโ called it a โhowlingly funny heartbreaker of a show.โ
โKimberly Akimboโ won five Tony Awards in 2023, including Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. It was also named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics Circle, The Drama Desk Awards, The Lucille Lortel Awards, and The Outer Critics Circle Awards.
Book and lyrics for the show are by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire, with music by Tony Award-winner Jeanine Tesori. With her win for โKimberly Akimbo,โ Tesori made history as the first female composer to win two Tony Awards for Best Score. The show was directed by Tony Award nominee Jessica Stone.
The North American Tour of โKimberly Akimboโ is produced by David Stone, The Atlantic Theater Company, James L. Nederlander, LaChanze, John Gore, Patrick Catullo, and Aaron Glick.
The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, home to the Hippodrome Theatre announced โKimberly Akimboโ will make its Baltimore premiere on April 28, 2026, and run until May 3, 2026. Ticket prices start at $45. To purchase tickets, visit the Hippodrome website, Ticketmaster, or the Hippodrome Box Office in person at 12 N. Eutaw St., Baltimore.
