The latest fiscal compliance audit of the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) and its oversight of taxpayer-funded assistance programs found the state sent out thousands in improper benefits payments.
DHS administers close to $1.9 billion in public benefit programs, assisting nearly one million Marylanders annually.
These programs include food assistance under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP) and home energy assistance programs.
