A landscaping crew working at a McDonaldโ€™s in Thurmont uncovered an artifact from the Western Maryland townโ€™s past over the weekend. According to the Frederick News Post, a live grenade was found under the pavement.

Soon after the discovery, the McDonaldโ€™s was evacuated, and authorities created a 600-foot perimeter. Officials X-rayed the grenade on the scene, and determined it was still active.

Bomb technician Dale Ednock told the News Post that the grenade was likely left from a military base in Thurmont. Crews will be back at the site this week with metal detectors to make sure there arenโ€™t any other surprises under the fast food joint.
