Artist Sean Dackermann considers his work a love letter to Baltimore, and the public has an opportunity to view 20 years of those love letters at Atrium Artspace with the exhibition, “Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt.”
The 20-year retrospective runs from Aug. 8 through Sept. 26 at the Station North gallery, with several events planned throughout the exhibition. “Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt” mixes documentary, street, and editorial photography. Some of the pieces in the exhibition were in his first book, which is part of the forthcoming series, “A Moment’s Notice”.
Dackermann’s portfolio showcases Baltimore and other areas in the mid-Atlantic region often gone overlooked and unnoticed. He primarily uses photography as his medium, but occasionally ventures into mixed-media, 3D, and industrial design in his work.
According to Dackermann’s website, he has always been creative but began to focus on photography in high school while studying magazines he loved. The impact of photography moved him, as did the process.
“After sharing a family camera (Pentax K1000, of course), he was offered a Nikon N6006 in exchange to help build a shed,” reads his “About” page. “The shed was built, and Sean’s foundation was set.”
Over the course of the “Beyond the Shadow of Doubt” exhibition, the work being showcased will change, so there is the chance a returning visitor might have a different experience the second time around.
Atrium Artspace is hosting several events around Dackermann’s exhibition, including opening and closing receptions, an artist talk, and a book preview. The schedule for these is listed below.
