“Fries are oftentimes overlooked as just a side dish and our goal is to make it the star, a meal in itself,” restaurateur Kevin Irish told SouthBmore.com. “Think poutine times 10.” Irish is describing The Local Fry, a gourmet french-fry shop he and his wife Elizabeth Irish are opening at 21 E. Cross St. in Federal Hill.
The gourmet fry concept is something of a novelty in itself (though, as Baltimore Business Journal points out, there is already one in Hampden at Le Garage), but The Local Fry promises an idiosyncratic take. In addition to house-made sauces and toppings that these kinds of places trade in, the menu will include “will have many dishes inspired by our different cultures” (he’s Irish, she’s a Baltimore native) and by their European travels.
Construction is currently underway at the 2,000 square-foot space, and the two plan to open by Thanksgiving as a BYOB with late hours.
