Tuesday, January 21, 7 PM. Chang-rae Lee: On Such a Full Sea

Chang-rae Lee is the author of Native Speaker, winner of the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for first fiction, A Gesture Life, and Aloft. Selected by The New Yorker as one of the twenty best writers under forty, Lee teaches writing at Princeton University.On Such a Full Sea, which takes place in a futuristic Baltimore, covers issues of conformity, privacy, and individualism.
The Ivy will be raffling off one copy of a limited, numbered edition of Chang-rae Lee’s On Such a Full Sea, with a specially designed cover and first-of-its-kind 3D printed slip case.

Thursday, January 23, 7 PM. Sharon Buchbinder: Obsession
A year after a barbaric childbirth, complete with a near-death experience and an encounter with her guardian angel, Angie Edmonds seems to be just finding her feet when her son is kidnapped.  Believing the boy to be the “Chosen One”, the cult leader who has taken him across the border into Mexico leads Angie down another difficult path: straight into the company of a dangerously attractive criminal with his own story to tell.

Thursday, January 30, 7 PM. LINCOLN: The Plots to Kill the President

Thomas Bogar, author of Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination, and Daniel Stashower, Edgar Award-winning author of The Hour of Peril, discuss two plots against Abraham Lincoln. Stashower’s book focuses on the “Baltimore Plot” to murder Lincoln before his inauguration, and the detectives who thwarted it. Bogar’s book examines the 1865 assassination’s impact on the 46 stagehands, actors and theater workers present at Ford’s Theatre for the shocking events.
