The Maryland Arts Summit returns to UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) ย on June 20 and June 21, gathering artists, advocates, educators, and policymakers to connect and learn, building on the progress of the previous five summits.
Itโs the only state-wide arts conference in Maryland, produced by the Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA). โThe Maryland Arts Summit is a pivotal platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in the arts sector, fostering connections that strengthen Maryland’s vibrant creative community,โ read the press release. โHosted by MCA, a leading voice for the arts in Maryland, the summit will feature a diverse array of keynote presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities tailored to meet the evolving needs of the arts ecosystem.โ
This yearโs theme for the Maryland Arts Summit is โCelebrating Creativity, Empowering Communities.โ The event will spotlight the power of the arts to transform, inspire, and engage lives in all sectors of society. Sessions will cover topics such as arts advocacy, diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), arts education, community engagement, the intersection of arts and technology, and more.
“We are thrilled to bring together hundreds of Maryland artists, arts administrators, educators, advocates, and policymakers for the Maryland Arts Summit 2024,” said Nicholas Cohen, Executive Director of Maryland Citizens for the Arts. “At a time when the arts are more vital than ever, this summit offers a unique opportunity to harness the collective energy and creativity of Maryland’s arts community to address key challenges and opportunities facing our state.”
Attendees of the summit will have the opportunities to experience interactive workshops, hear renowned speakers, and participate in networking, collaboration, and artistic innovation. Highlights include:

On Thursday, June 20, there are sessions like โDevising Physical Theatre and Collaborative Choreography,โ โThe Arts are for Everyone: Ensuring Accessibility in Exhibits and Beyond,โ โRallying Parents to your Cause of Arts Education,โ and much more.
On Friday, June 21, sessions include โNeurodiversity and the New Avant-Garde,โ Spaces and Places: Understanding the Futurism of Black Women and Women of Color in the Arts,โ โA Seat at the Table Engaging Youth for Collective Impact,โ and many others.
The summit will take place at the Performing Arts Center at UMBC, and virtual attendance options are available as well.
