Maryland health officials on Wednesday reported fewer than 100 new daily COVID-19 cases for the first time since March 2020.
The state confirmed 65 new coronavirus case on Wednesday, the first time in more than a year with fewer than 100 newly reported cases since March 25 when Maryland recorded 74 new cases, and the lowest daily case count since March 24 when there were 61 new cases reported.
At least 460,060 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 3,490,363 have tested negative as of Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
With Wednesday’s addition, Maryland’s coronavirus caseload grew by about 0.01%.
State officials on Wednesday newly reported six deaths related to coronavirus, bringing Maryland’s total number of COVID-19 fatalities to date to 9,410. There are also 212 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
The state has completed 10,425,161 coronavirus tests to date, with 6,440 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
On average, 1.44% of the state’s COVID-19 tests over the last seven days came back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 1.63% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 1.3% for Marylanders older than 35.
Of the state’s total number of confirmed cases, 43,336 people who tested positive for COVID-19 were hospitalized at some point, including 345 who are currently hospitalized.
Of those currently hospitalized, 259 are in acute care and 86 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients grew by six while the number of intensive care patients rose by three, marking a net increase of nine more people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Tuesday.
A total of 2,915,505 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, state data showed on Wednesday.
Of the two-dose vaccines, Maryland has administered a total of 3,228,670 first doses and 2,679,314 second doses.
In the past 24 hours, providers have administered 4,208 first doses and 4,613 second doses.
Maryland providers have also administered single-dose vaccines to a total of 236,191 people, including 592 doses that were reported in the past 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, there have been 85,089 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 70,935 in Montgomery County; 65,655 in Baltimore County; 52,860 in Baltimore City; 43,794 in Anne Arundel County; 19,776 in Frederick County; 19,218 in Howard County; 16,568 in Harford County; 14,595 in Washington County; 10,870 in Charles County; 9,481 in Carroll County; 7,683 in Wicomico County; 7,008 in Allegany County; 6,301 in Cecil County; 6,028 in St. Mary’s County; 4,219 in Calvert County; 3,658 in Worcester County; 2,998 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,828 in Dorchester County; 2,613 in Somerset County; 2,341 in Caroline County; 2,160 in Talbot County; 2,034 in Garrett County; and 1,348 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Maryland has identified 240,676 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 219,384 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 142,843 are Black, 11,118 are Asian, 162,613 are white, 69,636 are Hispanic, 21,459 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 52,391.
The state has confirmed 25,948 cases in people age 9 or younger; 47,444 in people ages 10-19; 84,348 in people ages 20-29; 78,811 in people ages 30-39; 68,556 in people ages 40-49; 68,456 in people ages 50-59; 45,580 in people ages 60-69; 25,038 in people ages 70-79; and 15,879 in people age 80 or older.
Nationwide, there have been at least 33,288,092 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 595,242 deaths. The U.S. has administered 296,139,876 coronavirus vaccine doses to date as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
