
Maryland’s coronavirus caseload on Friday jumped by 1,840 new cases, the largest single-day increase that the state has seen since the end of January and the third consecutive day of more than 1,000 new cases.
State officials on Friday saw the largest number of cases newly reported in one day since recording 2,097 new cases on Jan. 30.
At least 423,663 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 3,221,869 have tested negative as of Friday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
Maryland officials on Friday reported the coronavirus-related deaths of 14 more Marylanders, raising the state’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities to 8,238. There are also 186 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
The state has completed 9,046,422 coronavirus tests to date, with 44,452 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
Over the last seven days, an average of 5.59% of the state’s COVID-19 tests have come back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 5.93% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 5.32% for Marylanders older than 35.
The number of Marylanders currently hospitalized with COVID-19 increased by 28 patients on Friday.
Of the 1,249 Marylanders currently hospitalized due to coronavirus, 963 are in acute care and 286 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients climbed by 28 while the number of intensive care patients rose by five.
Maryland has hospitalized a total of 38,969 people with coronavirus to date.
A total of 1,269,263 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, state data showed on Friday.
Of the two-dose vaccines, Maryland has administered a total of 2,005,610 first doses and 1,140,636 second doses.
In the past 24 hours, providers have administered 39,766 first doses and 31,305 second doses.
Maryland providers have also administered single-dose vaccines to a total of 128,627 people, including 10,997 doses that were administered in the past 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 79,706 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 67,773 in Montgomery County; 58,366 in Baltimore County; 46,778 in Baltimore City; 40,112 in Anne Arundel County; 18,652 in Frederick County; 17,834 in Howard County; 14,849 in Harford County; 13,587 in Washington County; 10,010 in Charles County; 8,581 in Carroll County; 7,183 in Wicomico County; 6,602 in Allegany County; 5,545 in St. Mary’s County; 5,539 in Cecil County; 3,977 in Calvert County; 3,450 in Worcester County; 2,770 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,521 in Dorchester County; 2,491 in Somerset County; 2,172 in Caroline County; 1,995 in Talbot County; 1,919 in Garrett County; and 1,251 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Of Maryland’s confirmed cases, 22,226 are people age 9 or younger; 42,023 are people ages 10-19; 77,650 are people ages 20-29; 72,567 are people ages 30-39; 63,644 are people ages 40-49; 63,660 are people ages 50-59; 42,768 are people ages 60-69; 23,783 are people ages 70-79; and 15,342 are people age 80 or older.
Maryland has identified 221,304 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 202,359 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 126,510 are Black, 10,192 are Asian, 148,987 are white, 65,813 are Hispanic, 19,809 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 52,352.
Nationwide, there have been at least 31,003,585 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 560,127 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 403.6 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
