Maryland lawmakers are gearing up for a partisan fight over congressional redistricting during next weekโ€™s legislative special session, and one GOP lawmaker has launched an attack ad campaign in anticipation of the constitutional change.

Democratic leadership announced the Aug. 3-5 special session earlier this month via a press release with the intention of considering a โ€œconstitutional amendment regarding congressional redistricting standards.โ€

As it is, the state constitution requires legislative districts to consist of โ€œadjoining territory, be compact in formโ€ and that โ€œdue regard shall be given to natural boundaries and the boundaries of political subdivisions.โ€
