This holiday season, you can add a native Maryland tree to your holiday shopping list.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is now accepting orders for their “Gift of Trees” program.
Through Gift of Trees, Marylanders can purchase a native tree, or a grove of ten trees, to be planted in the state.
Trees purchased this holiday season will be planted in the next growing season – either spring or fall.
All trees will be planted in areas that benefit from them the most, such as parks, playgrounds, schoolyards, cities, towns, and along creeks and streams.
The Maryland Forest Service will select the best location for each tree.
Each purchase comes with a certificate that is issued and mailed out within a week or two.
All orders must be placed by Dec. 17 to ensure certificate delivery in time for Christmas.
Holiday discounts are included for early shoppers. A single tree is priced at $40.
