Maryland reported an additional 24,148 coronavirus test results today, the largest number released in a single day.

On Wednesday, state official set the previous record with 21,535 results, surpassing the 21,140 cases reported last Sunday.

The state confirmed 707 new coronavirus cases, the third time in the last four days the number has surpassed the 700 mark.

An average of 4.43 percent of coronavirus tests over the past seven days came back positive.

A total of 76,371 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19 and 631,845 have tested negative as of Friday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has hospitalized  11,728 people for COVID-19. There are 434 Marylanders who are currently hospitalized with the virus, including 306 in acute care and 128 in intensive care.

Hospitalizations decreased slightly, with two fewer patients than on Thursday. The number of acute care patients rose by seven, while intensive care patients declined by nine.

Maryland has recorded a total of 3,227 deaths due to COVID-19, including 12 deaths reported since Thursday. There are also 132 Marylanders whose deaths are suspected to be related to coronavirus.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 20,302 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 16,153 in Montgomery County; 9,376 in Baltimore County; 9,141 in Baltimore City; 5,813 in Anne Arundel County; 2,983 in Howard County; 2,661 in Frederick County; 1,583 in Charles County; 1,351 in Harford County; 1,248 in Carroll County; 1,173 in Wicomico County; 753 in St. Mary’s County; 751 in Washington County; 542 in Cecil County; 479 in Calvert County; 366 in Worcester County; 351 in Caroline County; 305 in Queen Anne’s County; 232 in Dorchester County; 230 in Talbot County; 227 Allegany County; 215 in Kent County; 106 in Somerset County; and 30 in Garrett County, according to the dashboard.

Maryland has recorded 2,427 confirmed cases in people age 9 or younger; 4,267 in people ages 10-19; 12,178 in people ages 20-29; 14,309 in people ages 30-39; 13,248 in people ages 40-49; 11,727 in people ages 50-59; 8,286 in people ages 60-69; 5,192 in people ages 70-79; and 4,737 in people age 80 or older.

Maryland has identified 39,825 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 36,546 as male.

Of the residents who have tested positive for coronavirus, 22,225 have been Black, 20,063 have been Hispanic, 15,846 have been white, 1,482 have been Asian, 3,634 have been another race, and data is not available for the remaining 13,121.

Nationwide, there have been at least 3,576,593 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 138,362 deaths and 1,090,645 recoveries. More than 43.3 million people in the U.S. have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
