In the old days, you’d get discovered at Schwab’s Pharmacy; these days, you can launch your career as a model with just a few posts to Instagram… provided you’ve got the right bone structure, of course.
That’s what happened to Maryland teen Lameka Fox. Here’s how it went down: Modeling giant IMG let it be known that they were looking for undiscovered models on Instagram. All you had to do was take some selfies and tag them #WLYG (for #WeLoveYourGenes). Some model wannabes posted hundreds of pics; Fox “just hashtagged three pictures where I looked the most natural and wasn’t wearing really any makeup,” she told Vogue. But IMG saw something special in those photos. Within two days, the modeling agency had flown the 17-year-old to New York and signed her. A couple months later, Fox was walking the runways for Marc Jacobs.
Who ever said social media is a waste of time?
