The Maryland Zoo is celebrating increasing hours of daylight and the coming of spring with its inaugural “Spring Illuminations,” an immersive festival of light sculptures starting on Friday, April 4.

Step into the glow as the zoo lights up the evening turning into night a little later each day. This will be an after-hours event taking place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the evenings when the zoo is normally closed.

Visitors to “Spring Illuminations” will be invited to stroll through the Maryland Zoo’s campus to see large, breathtaking animal sculptures made of light. They will experience larger-than-life displays of floral-themed sculptures, as well. The artworks are made of steel, silk, and high-efficiency LED lighting created by Tianyu Arts & Culture – the largest Chinese lantern festival producer in North America.

In addition to the immersive festival of light against the backdrop of the setting sun, then springtime night sky, visitors will enjoy:

  • special nighttime admission to the Zoo,
  • member discounts (for new or existing Zoo members),
  • free parking,
  • interactive photo opportunities,
  • Asian-inspired food and drinks.

Zoo members are invited for a preview night on Thursday, April 3. “Spring Illuminations” opens to the general public on Friday, April 4, and will last until the end of June.

Tickets cost $25 for members, $28 for adults (ages 12+) and $18 for children (ages 2-11). Children under 2 are free.

All proceeds from Spring Illuminations ticket sales benefit the Zoo’s animal care and conservation programs. (Tickets do not include daytime Zoo admission and Zoo animals will not be viewable.)
