A local beer bar and brewery are teaming up for a special beer to raise money for mental health resources.

Max’s Taphouse in Fells Point is collaborating with Pherm Brewing Company in Gambrills on a charity beer titled “I Left My Head in Cloud City.” Proceeds from the beer sales will benefit NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore, which provides mental health support and education.

Max’s Taphouse will host the 4th Annual Hops 4 Health event from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Admission is free.

“Join us in raising a glass – and raising hope – for mental health in our community! Cheers!” reads a news release from Max’s Taphouse.

The event will feature specialty beers from local breweries, with $1 from each featured glass being donated to NAMI.

For $25, breweries can enter The Big Wheel Race, which will take place at 3 p.m. outside of the taphouse. The winning team will earn a dedicated tap line at Max’s for one year. Teams may only use muscle power, no motors.

There will also be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and other opportunities to win prizes and help raise money for NAMI.

NAMI Metro Baltimore offers volunteer-run support groups, mental health education classes, and stigma-reducing presentations. Last year, the organization reached more than 9,000 people across Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

For those who cannot attend the Hops 4 Health event in person, supporters can donate to NAMI online by clicking this link.
