Readers, I have a confession to make. I am in love. He’s got giant ears, ridiculously floppy jowls, and a wet nose. Did I mention that he’s not human?
Nathan is a Bloodhound who won big at this week’s Westminster Kennel Club show, claiming the top spot in the hound group and very nearly snagging Best in Show. (Nathan “was robbed” of the title by a wire fox terrier named Sky “who was not as awesome as Nathan,” the blogs reported.)

“I thought about not even showing Nathan,” his co-owner/handler, Heather Helmer, told the Baltimore Sun. Helmer and her husband Zack own a kennel in Queenstown, Maryland, which is where they co-bred Nathan. He first started showing when he was only a pup, and quickly grew to love the crowd’s attention: “The louder the crowd is, the happier he is. He loves the applause and the screaming,” Helmer says. Nathan has already won prizes for man-trailing, which is exactly what it sounds like — the Bloodhound’s ability to track down people based on scent.
One damn cute fox terrier won Westminster this year, but Nathan the bloodhound was the real heart throb. Of… http://t.co/PCO30t7uGb

Fun fact: Nathan’s show name is Flessner’s International S’Cess. What a mouthful. Congrats to him, and to the Helmers!
