Mesmerica, created by James Hood, comes to CCBC in June.

Every Saturday in June, visitors will have the chance to sit in a darkened domed theater for an hour-long multi-sensory audiovisual journey called Mesmerica. Billed as a 360ยฐ light and sound projection spectacle, the show arrives at Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville on June 7.

Grammy-nominated and award-winning composer James Hood combines his music with animated 3D art curated from artists around the world to create a visually hypnotic experience. The show is family-friendly, suitable for children ages 6 years old and up, designed to simultaneously relax and engage the senses.

โ€œThe power of immersive music and art is like no other art form,โ€ Hood said. โ€œIt has the ability to create unique moods and brain states, and weโ€™re so thrilled and honored to be able to showcase this full-dome presentation in such wonderful venues.โ€

Mesmerica was nominated for the Producers Guild of Americaโ€™s first ever Innovation award in 2020. In the same year, it won the c3: Future Vision Award from the Center of Conscious Creativity, which recognizes an artistโ€™s contribution to a better future through arts and media.

The show has sold over 600,000 tickets and broken box office records in 60 North American cities. As many as 30% of visitors have seen the show at least two or more times.

Hoodโ€™s resumรฉ includes having played drums for The Pretenders, and being the creator of the ambient/electronica act Moodswings, which is ongoing after more than two decades. Heโ€™s known for his work on the PanArt Hang, a relatively new instrument invented in 2000. While related to the steel drum from Trinidad, it is in the family of handpans, which is also relatively young.

Mesmerica will be at the Community College of Baltimore County at the Banneker Planetarium on June 7, 14, 21, and 28. Show times will vary. Tickets are available by clicking this link.
