Some things are just quintessentially “Baltimore;” Natty boh, the Utz girl, Old Bay, the Kinetic Sculpture Race, The Wire, to name a few. The lights on the 700 block of 34th Street around the holidays, unquestionably, fall into that category. For the past 65 years, just after Thanksgiving, the residents of 34th street in Hampden string their lights, anchor their inflatable snowmen and illuminate the city with the holiday spirit. The lights first went on this past Saturday evening, and will be on from dusk until 11:00pm nightly until early January. For a little more breathing room, try visiting 34th street on a weeknight, and remember that the closer you go to Christmas, the more hectic it will be.
The lights are up, ergo the holiday season is officially upon us! Fa la la la la, la la la la.
