Nelson Cruz was only with the Orioles for one season, but he made quite the impression. And, apparently, there was more to it than his amazing home run production.

“He made an unbelievable impact,” said Adam Jones. “Obviously, between the lines he made the most visual impact in terms of what you could see, but seeing him on a day-to-day basis, the guy is unbelievable. Great teammate, a positive guy every day. Always uplifting, always ready to play a game and always has that big smile on his face. There’s nothing better than that to me.”

That uplifting smile will be back at Camden Yards tonight (and the next night and the one after that), but it’s going to be sitting in the wrong dugout, as Cruz’s new team, the Seattle Mariners, begin a three-game series against the O’s.

The slugger says he hopes his plate appearances inspire shouts of “Cruuuuz!” and not “Boooo!” but it might be hard to tell the difference.

And in case you were wondering, Cruz is currently leading the major leagues in home runs.
