Alex Trebek threw some shade with his own answer to one Jeopardy contestant’s description of her favorite music.
Video shows the longtime host talking to Susan Cole, a legislative librarian from Bowie, about her favorite kind of music. She describes nerdcore as hip-hop about, “Video games, science-fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun.”
“Losers, in other words,” Trebek replies.
The diss provoked a reaction from the audience. Trebek said he was only kidding. He probably was. Still, it’s a little backward for a show that rewards people for being super smart to be making fun of nerds. In any case, he failed to realize that he was messing with the wrong group. Trebek faced a backlash from the proud nerds of the internet.
The man’s just mad because he’s too dumb to be a contestant on his own show,” wrote one. Burn!
In any case, it may have been motivation for Cole. She walked away with the win, and $22,600. She’ll face off with new contestants — and Trebek — on tonight’s episode.
