Want to nosh on some New Orleans-inspired food and drinks? You’ll soon be able to do just that right here in Baltimore, as national chain Fat Tuesday prepares to expand to Charm City.

Baltimore’s liquor board on Thursday approved a Class “B” Beer, Wine and Liquour restaurant license for the business.

Fat Tuesday will operate in a 4,000-square-foot space at 718-22 S. Broadway, the former home of The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille in Fells Point.

They are known for their alcoholic frozen daiquiris like the 190 Octane and Cat 5 Hurricane drinks.

A sample menu included with the application features various pizzas, entrees, starters, sides, desserts, and drinks. One of the drinks on the menu is called a “Charm City Sunrise,” costs $19, and is described as “Patrón, Orange Juice, Grenadine & a dunked Red Bull Original.”

The cocktail bar first opened on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in 1984. Since then, Fat Tuesday has expanded to nearly 90 locations across the United States and abroad.

The name “Fat Tuesday” refers to Mardi Gras, which is celebrated with rich and often fatty foods before the fasting season of Lent.

The city of New Orleans is one of the biggest — if not THE biggest — celebrants of the holiday in the U.S., marking the occasion with parades, costumes, beads, music, and merrymaking.
