Leslie Robinson is a 6-foot freshman at Princeton and a forward on that school’s basketball team. She also happens to be the daughter of Michelle Obama’s brother, making her the president’s niece.
Apparently the mere fact of that family relationship was enough to cause someone to leave an eight-minute voicemail for the University of Maryland athletic department, threatening in some detail about the imminent harm that was coming to Robinson. According to USA Today, the voicemail claimed that a man was driving around campus with a Glock, looking for Robinson.
The school beefed up security for the game, which the president did not attend. Officials also decided not to tell Robinson about the threat until after the game–which, unfortunately (or fortunately, if you’re a Terps fan) Princeton lost, 85-70.
