What do you do in a presidential race where your opponent has all the name recognition and most of the momentum behind her? If you’re Martin O’Malley, you find a way to distinguish yourself on the issues. And according to a new Buzzfeed piece, O’Malley is making a play when it comes to immigration.

First things first: O’Malley isn’t even really that into the word “immigrant.” He prefers “new Americans.” He’s touting his record in Maryland, where the DREAM Act passed a few years ago. The state has also invested in English language education, job training, and citizenship skills.

“He’s very clearly the most pro-Latino and pro-immigrant governor in the country,” Gustavo Torres, executive director of CASA de Maryland, told Buzzfeed. Will that be enough to make O’Malley a contender against Hillary Clinton? That remains to be seen.
