The Orioles Now Have a Pair of Brothers on the Team

camdenyardsIn case the early season barrage of wins, home runs, and haymakers weren’t enough to make out fall in love with the 2016 Baltimore Orioles, the team now has a family connection in the clubhouse.

According to MASN, the brother of Jonathan Schoop was called up to join the team on Monday from Triple-A Norfolk. Sharlon Schoop is the second baseman’s older brother.

While the move unites the brothers, it could be short-lived. Sharlon Schoop was called up due to the suspension of Manny Machado, who threw a nasty punch at Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura and earned rave reviews for his work. Machado is expected to be back Friday, and Sharlon Schoop isn’t even getting a place on the roster.

Still, it’s always heartening to hear about pro sports teammates connected by more than the big paycheck that brought them to a town where they probably didn’t grow up. In this case, the brothers from Curaçao will probably happy to spend some time together stateside.
