All fashionable women have it: that “one great thing.” Something in the closet that is fantastic – but that, for one reason or another, no longer gets any use.
This year, consider donating that item to the House of Ruth Maryland’s One Great Thing sale. The sale will take place October 1 – 4 – and the organization is busy collecting great, gently used items, from handbags to clothing, to feature.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit House of Ruth Maryland, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending violence against women and their children, and to helping battered women and their children safely rebuild their lives.
This year’s sale will be the organization’s fifth, but the first to take place in a pop-up location in The Shops at Kenilworth. The multi-day sale starts with a preview event, for ticket holders only, on October 1st.
To “stock” the sale, the House of Ruth is asking local women to peruse their closets and to donate “one great thing” to be sold. “We’re looking for either vintage or contemporary, classic, fashionable things in excellent condition,” says Terri Wurmser, the Director of Development for House of Ruth Maryland.
“The concept ‘one great thing’ came from the notion of the donations and people’s generosity,” says Wurmser. “Give us just one thing, but make it a great thing.”
In past years, the spotlight has been on furs, handbags, jewelry, and other accessories. This year, for the first time, because the sale will the held in a large shop space at Kenilworth, shoppers will have the opportunity to try on clothes. As a result, this year will feature a large amount of designer and high-end clothing in addition to accessories and outerwear.
Items not sold during the sale will be transferred to Ruth’s Closet, a boutique run by the House of Ruth Maryland that sells high quality, new and gently used clothing and accessories, with proceeds benefiting House of Ruth’s programs.
Donations for the sale are accepted at Pendleton and Lingerie Lingerie in The Shops at Kenilworth, in addition to several other locations: at the House of Ruth donation center in Northeast Baltimore, at the Ruth’s Closet and at Mano Swartz Furs, Jones & Jones, Ruth Shaw and Freesia.
