The race horse Journalism came from behind to win the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.

Journalism finished with a time of 1:55.37 in the second jewel of the Triple Crown of thoroughbred horse racing.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli is the first jockey from Italy to win a Triple Crown race.

Meanwhile, Journalism’s trainer Michael McCarthy logged his second Preakness victory, after previously training the 2021 Preakness-winning horse Rombauer.

Saturday marked the end of an era for Pimlico Race Course, which is slated to undergo a $14.3 million overhaul.

The Preakness will move to Laurel Park in 2026, before returning to a rebuilt Pimlico Race Course in 2027.

  1. Wonderful photos! An extra weekend would have been nice for us to say good bye to Pimlico. I don’t say ‘old’ Pimlico, because I am not sure there will be a ‘new’ Pimlico. The people in charge, of its future, seem more concerned with appeasing Sinai (who never got over being promised over half the land in 2019) and the neighborhood representatives who are in their pocket. A real working race course, and a showcase worthy of the event, the sport, and the community, is the shot in the arm that Baltimore needs. But it needs to be a state of the art horse racing entity first. That means more green space, shady pathways and picnic areas for these awesome animals and fans alike. There plans for a new Northern Pkwy entrance which should be flanked with a welcoming sign and plantings – a signal that one is entering something special. Commercial office space has NO place on this part of the street no matter how much the developers, on Sinai’s board wants them. We have ONE chance to get this right and bring the world to our door. We cannot allow short term plans, and misguided aims, take it away
