Radio-controlled model airplanes and helicopters flew over Brooklyn, Maryland this weekend as members of the Southwest Area Park Modelers club provided aerial demonstrations, competitions, and lessons.
Models ranged from planes resembling early aviation aircraft to more modern jets.
Club members showed attendees how the planes work and even gave some the opportunity to control the aircraft themselves.
Check out scenes from the weekend event, captured by photographer Carl Schmidt of Federal Hill Photography LLC:
Rob Edmonds Jr, of Fairfax County VA, launches an RC aircraft he designed and built himself. Edmonds Jr designed his first homemade RC aircraft about 25 years ago. He says that, although he has an aeronautical engineering degree: “most of what I know about model airplanes I learned from model airplanes” and encourages anyone to design and build their own.
