Everyone is invited to join the Waterfront Partnership, Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance, the governor, the mayor and the Flanigan family on Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of Pierce’s Park , a new park on a one-acre parcel of land at Pier 5 between the Columbus Center and Eastern Avenue.
The park is dedicated to the memory of Baltimore contractor and civic leader Pierce J. Flanigan III. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed by a day of children’s activities and live entertainment.
The park includes sculptures designed by local artist David Hess and landscape features that promote play and imagination. Pierce’s Park was built as a sustainable space and as such includes indigenous trees and native plants, as well as bioretention facilities to educate children about the benefits of capturing runoff. The park also offers visitors free wireless access to the Internet.
