Early Learning

The Odyssey School’s Early Learning program provides a warm, highly structured environment for students in kindergarten through third grade with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

With small classes of about 4–9 students, teachers offer individualized instruction that meets each child where they are while building the foundational language and literacy skills essential for success at Odyssey and beyond.

Grounded in research, the program provides:

• Specialized, direct, and explicit instruction throughout the day with an emphasis on oral expression

• Multimodal, hands-on learning across all subjects

• Language-rich experiences woven into every class, including specials

• Access to a team of speech-language pathologists

• Creative and spirited traditions throughout the school year to encourage a love of reading

Early Learning teachers cultivate students’ natural curiosity and sense of wonder while creating joyful, engaging experiences where children can tackle their challenges and discover their strengths.

Research consistently shows that children with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences make the greatest gains when they receive explicit instruction in phonological awareness and oral language in their early elementary years. By identifying and addressing learning differences early, students can develop the skills and confidence needed to become fluent readers and lifelong learners.
