Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake returned to Meet the Press Sunday to defend Obamacare. Her appearance coincided with an announcement by the White House that, two months in, healthcare.gov is now โworking smoothly for most users.โ
Hurrah. Victory.
Itโs pretty hard to play this off as a triumph, and Rawlings-Blake wisely didnโt even try. โWe know that the rollout was botched,โ she conceded on the program. (Co-panelist Rep. Chris Van Hollen echoed her sentiment in a comment on Marylandโs state run exchange, stating flatly, โMarylandโs a mess. Thereโs no doubt about it.โ)
But the mayor still found plenty of room to cheer the Affordable Care Act and jeer Republicans. She characterized the president and Democrats as โtrying to make sure the people have health care,โ while accusing โpeopleโ in Congress of โstanding on the sidelines, rooting for failure.โ
