Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake returned to Meet the Press Sunday to defend Obamacare. Her appearance coincided with an announcement by the White House that, two months in, healthcare.gov is now โ€œworking smoothly for most users.โ€

Hurrah. Victory.

Itโ€™s pretty hard to play this off as a triumph, and Rawlings-Blake wisely didnโ€™t even try. โ€œWe know that the rollout was botched,โ€ she conceded on the program. (Co-panelist Rep. Chris Van Hollen echoed her sentiment in a comment on Marylandโ€™s state run exchange, stating flatly, โ€œMarylandโ€™s a mess. Thereโ€™s no doubt about it.โ€)

But the mayor still found plenty of room to cheer the Affordable Care Act and jeer Republicans. She characterized the president and Democrats as โ€œtrying to make sure the people have health care,โ€ while accusing โ€œpeopleโ€ in Congress of โ€œstanding on the sidelines, rooting for failure.โ€
