No one could call it a fairy-tale wedding, but Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice married his fiancee Janay Palmer on Friday. It was the day after a grand jury indicted Rice on a charge of third-degree aggravated assault after allegedly knocking Palmer unconscious in an Atlantic City casino on February 15.
According to the Baltimore Sun, “it was believed” that the two were originally aiming for a summer wedding. No reasons were given for the — apparent — change of plan. Whatever it was, it probably wasn’t a legal concern. The Sun reports that their marriage will not likely allow Palmer to invoke spousal privilege in the prosecution of Rice’s felony assault charge, since she herself is the alleged victim.
