Yesterday, multiple sources confirmed that former running back Ray Rice had settled his multi-million dollar contract dispute with the Baltimore Ravens.
Rice sued his former team for first suspending, then cutting him after video surfaced of him knocking out his then-girlfriend, now-wife in an elevator. Rice argued that he was unlawfully terminated, and so was owed back pay. After a judge ruled that Rice was unlawfully double-punished (first by being suspended, then by being banned) for one crime, he became eligible to play for the NFL again–though the Ravens have said that they won’t sign him.
The settlement terms were private, so we’re not likely to ever know just how much the Ravens paid Rice. I’m just happy we won’t have to witness a protracted legal battle between Rice and the Ravens.
