The Aberdeen Ironbirds are a minor league affiliate of the Orioles, but the team has a couple of familiar names as they take the field for the season this week.
On Tuesday, Ryan Ripken made his debut after signing with the team earlier this spring. Heโs the son of Cal Ripken, Jr., who is also the owner of the team. His last name is also on the stadium. No pressure. The younger Ripken went 1-for-4 and struck out twice. But itโs baseball, so thereโs always a chance to make up for itโฆtoday.
Meanwhile, Orioles closer Zack Britton started the game. Heโs on rehab and looking to get back in the big league bullpen. Great Britton posted Camden Yards-like numbers, needing just 11 pitches to retire three batters in the first inning.
As for the game, the home team lost 11-2.
