IMET Open House Returns Outdoors on May 10
in Partnership with Big Truck Day
Ever curious about that building with the tent-like roof at the Inner Harbor? That’s where science comes to life! IMET invites you to our annual open house on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year, we’re taking the fun outside to Pierce’s Park behind the IMET building and partnering with the Department of Public Works’ Big Truck Day.
Enjoy a day of engaging with the public through hands-on STEM activities, touch tanks, and marine science exhibits. It’s a chance to highlight IMET’s research and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.
• Marine life under the microscope
• DNA discovery with pipettes and lab tools
• Meet-the-scientist stations
• Outreach tables with kid-friendly science fun
• Touch tanks and activities
Location: Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology – Pierce’s Park
Address: 701 E Pratt St, Baltimore, MD 21202

Let’s show Baltimore how science happens here!
Scientists at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) are engaged in cutting-edge research in microbiology, molecular biology, and biotechnology. They are using marine organisms like sponges to develop drugs for cancer, devising ways to make alternative fuel out of algae from the Chesapeake Bay, and working to understand how crabs and fish grow so we have abundant sources of food.
Located at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) is a joint University System of Maryland institute that conducts research to help protect and restore coastal marine systems and their watersheds and improve human health. The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), the University of Maryland Baltimore, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County are partner universities.
