The legislative draft of Howard County’s Gateway Master Plan hit the streets in July. Predictably, initial public feedback at an August Planning Board meeting zeroed in on zoning, infrastructure needs and affordable housing, but the largest property owner in the proposed innovation district also had a few of its own reservations.
Britt Snider, chief operating officer for COPT Defense Properties, said his organization’s primary concerns center on phasing and sequencing.
According to Howard County Planning Supervisor Kate Bolinger, the industry analysis conducted by consultants who considered market opportunity over the next 30 years projected the opportunity for Gateway to add 4,700 to 8,100 new jobs, equating to one million to 1.8 million square feet of net new employment space.
