Viewers of public television know that it’s a place to expand horizons. In Maryland, that now includes TV shows straight from the Land of the Rising Sun.
Maryland Public Television is set to add shows from Japanese programmer NHK World Partners, which distributes English language shows. It’ll be available on cable and Over The Air.
That means Sumo wrestling is coming to your local PBS station. Grand SUMO Highlights is the first show listed in the announcement of the new partnership. The show “features an overview and highlights from the sumo tournaments or “bashos” in Japan every odd month of the year.” Move over WWE and UFC. This is brute force competition. With grace.
Other shows include Dining With the Chef, Journeys in Japan and live news on the hour.
