SNF Parkway Theatre will screen the 2025 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour, which will take place at the end of the month from Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27.
The tour is a showcase of seven standout short films from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, including two Festival Award-winning titles.
This is a 100-minute program with a mix of storytelling styles that showcases bold voices and creative perspectives. It gives viewers a glimpse into the Sundance Film Festival’s short film offerings to people who couldn’t make it out to Salt Lake City for the event in person. The tour includes fiction, nonfiction, and animated shorts with humor, emotion, inspiring tales and a wide range of characters.
The Sundance Film Festival has been a vital platform and springboard for many independent filmmakers, playing an instrumental role in supporting short films and their creators by giving them a wide audience. Directors like Andrea Arnold, Lake Bell, Damien Chazelle, Destin Daniel Cretton, Jay and Mark Duplass, Debra Granik, Rashaad Ernesto Green, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Sterlin Harjo, Todd Haynes, Don Hertzfeldt, Sky Hopinka, Shaka King, Lynne Ramsay, Dee Rees, Joey Soloway, and Taika Waititi are all alumni of the festival’s Short Film Program.
In 2025, the festival received 11,153 short film submissions from which it chose 57 to screen. Then the festival chooses a small collection of shorts from those to go on a theatrical tour to hit dozens of cities. A few of the films on tour are “Grandma Nai Who Played Favorites,” ”Hurikán,” “Debaters,” and more.
“Maryland Film Festival is a discovery festival, so shorts are particularly integral to what we do,” said KJ Mohr, director of Maryland Film Festival & Film Programming at the SNF Parkway Theatre. “Today’s short form filmmakers who are making original work and telling compelling new stories are the outstanding feature filmmakers of tomorrow and they are the artists who we want to spotlight and bring their work to our audiences. The Sundance Shorts program is a fantastic sampling of exactly that kind of work and we’re delighted to share the program with SNF Parkway audiences once again this year.”
