An indie bookshop event for a novel about indie bookshops! The Ivy is delighted to welcome Susan Coll to The Ivy for a reading and discussion of her new book, Bookish People, a celebratory peek behind the curtain of bookshop life. Susan will be in conversation with Marion Winik. This event will take place outdoors on the Ivy’s back patio, Sunday, August 28, at 4:00 p.m.

Susan Coll is the author of six novels, including Bookish People and The Stager—a New York Times and Chicago Tribune Editor’s Choice. Her third novel, Acceptance, was made into a television movie starring the hilarious Joan Cusack.  Her work has appeared in publications including the New York Times Book Review and the Washington Post. She was the Director of Events and Programs at Politics and Prose for five years, and is now part of the events team. She is currently the president of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation. 

University of Baltimore professor MARION WINIK is the author of The Big Book of the Dead and winner of the 2019 Towson Prize for Literature. Among her ten other books are First Comes Love and Above Us Only Sky. Her award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody column appears at Baltimore Fishbowl, and her essays have been published in The New York Times Magazine, The Sun, and elsewhere. She writes book reviews for People, Newsday, The Washington Post, and Kirkus Reviews; she hosts The Weekly Reader podcast at WYPR.
