You may have heard about sweetgreen from friends in DC, College Park, New York, Boston and Philly. As of 10:30 a.m. Monday, the salad spot is opening its first location in Baltimore.

Located on Fleet Street on the ground floor of the Hyatt Regency in Harbor East, sweetgreen says it relies on locally-sourced produce that is delivered each morning to create a mix of year-round and seasonal salads. A fall menu includes salads with Roasted Turkey and Brussel Sprouts, as well as Curry Cauliflower and Quinoa.

With the Harbor East opening Monday and a new location on the Upper West Side of New York this week, the eight-year-old chain will have 35 locations. The chain is also behind the annual Sweetlife Festival at Merriweather Post Pavillion.

Showing even more green for the city, the company is planning to donate 100 percent of proceeds from its first day to Living Classrooms Foundation as part of a program that teaches kids about healthy eating.

The restaurant launch in 2007 by three Georgetown University students who wanted healthier food than what they were offered in the dining halls.  See their story in the video, below.
