Local BBQ Truck Raising Money to Make Holiday Meal for Baltimore’s Homeless Vets

Tony Harrison has been cooking up holiday meals for homeless Baltimoreans for years. However, he’s hoping to expand on that tradition this December by making enough delicious BBQ to feed hundreds of Baltimore’s homeless veterans ahead of Christmas weekend.

Baltimore is bracing for some brisk weather this week, which has led City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen to issue her first “Code Blue” alert warning everyone to get inside and stay warm.

WHAT:            Be a part of an event making a difference in the lives of people struggling with hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Come to and/or write about one of the fastest growing events in Baltimore, with an expected 2,000 attendants and 200 volunteers. Empty Bowls is St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s signature fundraising event. It’s been a cold winter, in case you haven’t noticed. While everyone is inconvenienced by icy roads and frigid temperatures, a cold snap is worse — much worse — if you’re homeless. And it doesn’t help that Baltimore may have the nation’s strictest policies  for when additional shelter beds can be opened during inclement weather.
